Also known as “traditional market research” companies pay participants for being involved in focus groups, one to one interviews, usability studies or online projects. They take place at venues such as hotels or market research facilities, in your own home, on the phone or through an online forum. Whatever the format they all involve you giving your personal opinion on a chosen subject. You will get anything between £20 and £200 for taking part.
When you attend a market research focus group, or one to one interview, it will be audio and/or video recorded. These recordings are to help with analysis and reporting later on and will not be used for external purposes.
Market research sessions are conducted by trained interviewers (called moderators.) Sometimes the client who commissioned the research will want to observe the session. You will always be informed who will be present at the session.
How do I get selected for a market research session?
Register through our website and give as much information about yourself as possible. You can login at any time to review your details and keep them up to date. Then you will be emailed details of sessions that we feel are relevant to you. You can also check for sessions on our website, facebook or twitter.
I’ve applied for a market research session, what happens next?
If it looks like you fit our criteria one of our team will contact you via phone or text to go through some extra questions and confirm your suitability for the research. Once you have been confirmed for the session you will be sent full details of the project and the venue.
I’ve applied for numerous research projects and I haven’t heard anything back – why is this?
We look for very specific people and it maybe that you’ll have to apply for a few projects before we contact you. We recommend that you reply to our emails as soon as possible because we operate on a first come, first served basis. Whatever the reason please don’t get disheartened.
I took part in some market research a couple of months ago and haven’t heard from you again, why is this?
We want as many people as possible to take part in market research and leaving a gap between each session you take part in is one of the ways of ensuring this happens.
How will I be paid?
Usually in cash at the session but depending on the project it could be by bank transfer, cheque or occasionally vouchers. The payment method will be confirmed before you take part in the session.
If we haven’t been able to answer your questions please contact email@example.com and we will get back to you within 48 hours.
Online Survey Panel
By joining our panel you’ll be invited to take part in online surveys. You can do these as well as, or instead of focus groups, the choice is yours! Like traditional market research sessions they ask for your opinions on a wide variety of subjects.
How do I get selected for a survey?
Register through our website; you can do this at the same time as registering for focus groups. By giving as much information as you can about yourself we will try to make sure that you only get surveys that are relevant. You can login and update your details at any time.
Do I have to take part in every survey I receive?
No, you can choose which ones you want to do.
How long is a survey?
It all depends on the subject matter but usually between five and ten minutes and each one will have a different cash reward which you can see before you start the survey.
How often will surveys be sent to me?
Surveys will be sent to you as soon as they become available. You should get them every week.
Why do I screen out of a survey or not qualify for the surveys that are sent to me?
All online surveys require specific demographic profiles to answer the survey such as age, working status or job role. We try to tailor the surveys so that you will only receive ones that we think are appropriate to you. However you may screen out of a survey part way through as the completion quotas for your demographic profile are filled.
Please take the time to answer the survey questions to the best of your ability. The surveys are quality checked and if the answers appear inconsistent or the questions aren’t answered the client reserves the right to reject the survey even though it has been completed.
How will I be paid?
Your balance will accumulate as you complete the surveys. Payment is through your PayPal account or Amazon e-Vouchers. You can request a payout to your PayPal account when you reach a balance of £8, and then every subsequent £8. Please note that there is an administration fee of 16p fee for this service. PayPal will use the email address that you used when you registered your details with Research Opinions. Do not request a payout via PayPal unless this is the email address linked to your PayPal account. You can request payment through Amazon when you reach a balance of £10.
You should receive payment within a few days but at very busy periods it could take up to three or four weeks to be processed.
